This is really quite the perfect song for this Monday (at least for me) … The last few weeks have been hectic; and over the past few days everything was coming together … the hospitality list and flight list for my clients’ upcoming wedding was in order thanks to NC and it seemed that our work just got cut out for us …

Until this morning … it’s like everything had developed a mind of it’s own and decided to cause havoc with all of NC’s good work and add to that some more drama !!! Today was one of those – WTF – days !!

Oh and now it’s POURING with heavy rains, with lots of thunder and lightning for effect ! and we’re at mid-November in Mumbai !! Even Mother Nature is having a bad today from the looks of it !

How has your Monday been so far ? What song would describe your day today ? Don’t forget to add your link if you are participating in Music Monday.

It’s Monday – start of the new week – I can’t believe how quickly yet how slowly the week has gone by. I took part in my first ever Music Monday last week.  I didn’t get many responses but that’s okay since it takes time for something like this to build up.  I did get a few tweets out of it – so at least I made some people smile :)

I’m on my 2nd Music Monday and couldn’t think of a better track than ‘Hurts – Wonderful Life’ to begin the week with.  Hurts are an English electronic duo from Manchester composed of singer Theo Hutchcraft and synthesizer Adam Anderson.  I only discovered this song about a week, maybe ten days ago and it’s been stuck in my head ever since !  I’ve found a YouTube link along with the Lyrics (not that a lyrics guide is necessary since its quite a simple track)

There’s not much information about the group online – however I have discovered that they were ranked #4 of top 5 acts to look out for in 2010 by the BBC in their ‘Sound of 2010’ poll.  And with the sounds of Wonderful Life – they can definitely make it big !

The original Wonderful Life video makes you think back to the 80’s – a very funky black & white video; the lyrics are empowering; the strings are haunting and the drums make me think of electro-pop.

Have you heard this track before ? What do you think about it ? The lyrics are quite haunting – I can hear the ‘never give up’ in the back of my mind – and its definitely motivating when I’m having a frustrating day with work.  So please do leave a comment as it will save me from having the Monday Blues hehe.

Since I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to post today so I decided to play along with a Music Monday meme.  For those of you on Twitter – you’d be aware that there is a #MusicMonday or #MM that takes place each Monday where users put up their favourite tracks.

I’ve written about some of my favourite songs before – but I thought that by participating in something like this would allow for all of us to share our music preferences and also get to check out some other alternative music by the rest of blogosphere.

So here’s my very first Music Monday featured in the Hed Kandi albums : DJ Roog – Beautiful.  I find this to be a perfect pick-me up track; it’s very up beat – not heavy house and no loud bass either – it’s actually quite perfect for a Monday morning.  Give it a shot – try listening to it whilst you’re getting ready – I can guarantee that you’ll have a smashing day :)

I’m all for good music. There was a time when I couldn’t go to sleep if I didn’t have music playing. All of that changed when I started paying my own bills LOL and realized that I can work up quite an electricity bill !

i feel you Schiller is one of my favourite artistes .. I only discovered him perhaps just over a year ago and I’m practically addicted to his style of music. To really get a feel and deeper understanding of his music – do check out the following two tracks – Dream of You and You – both of which are on my playlists.

I can’t get over the goose bumps that this track has caused me (seems like all of Schillers’ music does this to me) … It’s as if the song has consumed every cell in my being. I feel you … I really do .. More than you can even imagine … I’ve connected with you .. somewhere mentally and emotionally … I feel you.

The vocals are haunting. Can you feel the sound vibrate against your skin ? Close your eyes and just LISTEN to the music. Do you hear the beats ? do you feel the shivers going down your spine ? Can you feel the goose bumps rise on your arms ?

Look deep into your minds eye .. who is it that you see when you hear this song ? Can you see him or her ? Who are they to you ? Are you surprised that this is the one person that you can relate to this track ?

I think my heart skipped a beat .. knowing that I can feel you through every beat of my heart … Do you even realize the extent of my feelings ? Would you ever be able to understand ?

With my eyes closed, and a rush of memories racing through my mind .. I can see you .. you’ve always been there .. I don’t even know you but I feel you .. I can smell your musky scent; the freshness of your after shave … Why is it that I feel you ? Why haven’t I ever said what it was that I wanted to say ? Or maybe I just never said it the right way.

There’s so much I want to say – but I can’t … Not because I don’t know how – but it might take me a lifetime to convey my thoughts to you …I don’t know if you are ready for that sort of commitment.

If I could come up with all of that … how must you be reacting to this song ? Would love for you to share a few lines with me in the form of comments. Enjoy the lyrics – have included them below for you to have a read as well :)

I feel You...
In every stone
In every leaf of every tree
you´re ever grown
(That you ever might have grown)

I feel you...
In every thing
In every river that might flow
In every seed you might have sown

I feel you...
In every rain
In every beating of my heart
Each breath I take
(In every breath i´ll ever take)

I feel you...
Anyway...
In every tear that I might shed
In every word I´ve never said
I feel you...

This has got to be one of my newest all time favourite tracks.   It’s a perfect blend of soulful beats.  The acoustics – guitar, drums, and percussion – seem like they were made to complement each other to create the background score to the story of my life !  That’s how strongly I connect to the music.  It is a deep, dynamic and utterly magical as far as I’m concerned !

The first time I heard this track was a couple of weeks ago and it was over the surround sound system in my living room and all I heard was this amazingly clear, crisp and warm vocal chord which sent shivers down my spine.

The acoustics more or less take over your senses and it feels like the beats are running through my veins.  I can get lost in this tune … maybe I should try meditating to it … should help actually !

tag und nacht ‘Nachtflug’ is a single released by Schiller - the main project of Christopher von Deylen – a German electronic music composer who produces music which can be considered trance and ambient.

This single was released in Germany in 2005 and is a part of the the album ‘Tag Und Nacht’ – which means Day & Night.

I realised that two other tracks that I’ve really enjoyed after a long time have been Schillers’; the most recent being ‘You’ which was a collaboration with singer Colbie Caillat and another with Wolfsheim titled Dream Of You – both are MUST HEAR tracks :)

Happy Listening and don’t forget to let me know what you thought of the track !

I’m not quite sure how I came across this track but it was many years ago … Around the time when cassettes (till about ‘93 I think) were around !  I don’t even know why I liked this song in the first place – but it’s a song I have had on my computer and then my laptop for just over a decade !

Do you know anything about Deborah Cox ? All these years deborah cox that I have known this track – I haven’t ever really tried to find out more about the artist … quite horrible of me actually ..

It turns out that Deborah Cox is a Canadian RnB singer-songwriter and actress ! She also has held a #1 single on the Billboard chart for 14 weeks in 1998 !  In 2001, her hit-song "Absolutely Not" was featured in Dr. Dolittle 2.  She has even sung the Canadian National Anthem at the 2008 NBA All Star Game in Louisiana.

Turns out the lady is quite popular !  This is the second Canadian artiste that I’ve been impressed by and written about !  I just checked out her website – and it’s quite funky – you can flip pages on it …

So what’s so special about this song ? Well for starters – I can sing it ! Yeah I used to be on the school choir through junior and high school and did quite a few solos as well.  I don’t think I could sing in front of an audience again ! (actually I just did on Monday – got dragged into singing karaoke)

But this song – I can sing because it’s almost recited in a way … the words are clear and quite precise and can be heard properly.  I was browsing my music collection and remembered the name of the track and put it on … which got me thinking …

Considering the lyrics of the track which I found on azlyrics.com … the song in my opinion  represents loneliness, confusion, betrayal which eventually turns to being able to be strong and no longer doubt oneself.  There isn’t much in there about the latter statement but I feel it conveys that quite well.

It’s almost a sentimental song but without the mushy score … it has a more upbeat melody to it .. and that I LIKE about this track …. Whilst looking for the YouTube video, the only one I came across which actually had an embed code – ironically – contains graphic images of hearts with what looks like arrows !

Deborah Cox has a really soulful voice … combine that with a brilliantly written track that expresses so much … it strikes a chord !  For me, her voice really conveys emotion so that the listener can really ‘feel’ and ‘relate’ to the lyrics of the song.

We have all gone through mixed emotions and have doubted or questioned the feelings of a partner … I have broken up with ex’s and have been dumped as well … Back as a teenager, I might have questioned the actions, but I recall sometimes playing this track used to instantly pep me up.  Almost all love songs are highly emotional and quite teary – at least the ones I have heard – and its refreshing to hear a ‘non mushy’ track which manages to capture the essence of loss and emphasizes the need to be strong !

Over the last decade or so, I have played this track at various times of my life and it just seemed to suit the moment … or just capture the exact emotion that I was possibly feeling.  Some people listen to slow romantic songs or ballads …. if I was having any doubts – I could definitely put this on and have them all cleared out  :)

"Who Do U Love"

Last night I slept alone
I stayed at home
For the first time since you've been gone babe
No friends to understand
To lend a helping hand
To ease the greatest pain I've ever known

How you walked away so easily
Still remains a mystery to me
Don't you remember that you promised me?
Yes you promised me that you'd never leave boy
But you went away babe
And it's such a shame
How could you turn your back on me?

[Chorus:]
If you really don't want me
If you really don't need me
If you really don't love me
Tell me who do you love?
If you really don't want me
If you really don't need me
If you really don't love me
Then who do you love?

I gave, gave everything
A man could ever need
I was there whenever you would call me baby
But somehow your feelings changed
You don't act the same
I guess you're not the man that I once knew at all

How you walked away so easily
Still remains a mystery to me
Don't you remember that you promised me?
Yes you promised me that you'd never leave boy
Now the love is gone babe
Tell me what went wrong
How could you leave me hanging on? Oh baby

[Chorus x 2]
I once was blind but baby now I see
That I'm not the one
Who can fill your every need
I painted a picture so clear, it's reality
Now I know, yes I know
That you're not the one for me
Ooooh baby, oh yeah
Who do you love baby?

If you don't want me
If you don't need me

How could you walk away from me?
Baby you promised you'd never leave
Slept alone since you've been gone
The greatest pain I've ever known
Oh babe, oh babe oh yeah
[Chorus x 2]

… At least that’s what it felt like on Monday night !  I’ve been meaning to post this since the other night but I never even got around to actually writing it … so here I am about to digress into the past …

karaoke A long, long time ago … almost exactly 48 hours ago (it is 22:40 as I type),  I was sat down at a hidden table at a popular bar known for it’s Karaoke sessions every Sunday and Monday, with a friend PP who is visiting from London.

After a long day of work, I really didn’t have the energy to go down and hail a cab to the bar … I’m still traumatised by my experience and not yet able to drive :(   After struggling to just freshen up, I stepped out of my room into the darkness of the passage way only to find a light shining through the kitchen passage …. Lo and behold … my brother and his friend .. and they look like they might be heading out for a drive … perfect .. I can bum a ride !

My brother’s mate ends up dropping me to the bar and I find PP after much squinting in the dark trying to track him and his group down …. karaoke nights 2I was told off for missing their rendition of Hotel California … but never fear, they had signed up to sing another 3-4 songs !

What I wasn’t prepared for was being dragged up on stage and being made to sing New York ! New York !  It was a blessing and a curse in disguise that out of the two mics between 4 of us – the mic PP and I were using was not working (it was either that or I was tone deaf ! )

A few hoots and howls later – I managed to race back to the table and GULP my Vodka Redbull ! How could I possibly have gone up there for the sake of spirit on a few sips of VRB ??? I definitely needed more than that if I had to go up there again !

The birthday girl makes her way over to me and announces with a very straight face that the next song is gonna be just the two of us girls and it was going to be … Madonna – Like A Virgin !!! OMG – I think I wanted the ground to swallow me alive !! Maybe God was listening to me or took pity on me because for the next 15 minutes – every other group at the bar made their way up on stage and would give ear shattering renditions of songs that they thought they could actually sing !

Just as I got comfortable with my second drink, I find myself being led by the arm and back towards the stage … and I kept trying to pull back to at least carry my drink with me …. This time, the birthday girl had picked Mambo No 5 !  The four of us were so off-key – it was hurting MY ears – I don’t even want to try to imagine how the others in the bar were feeling …. The rest of my mates had been tanking up on booze from about lunch time as they are all here on vacation and I was the only sober one in the group !

The only time I felt comfortable singing was to the beats of Savage Garden’s Truly Madly Deeply … I really do love that song, and it was played towards the end of the night … the four of us just sat there around the edge of our table and huddled together and just sang away … Well the three of them were a bit hoarse from the drinks and cheering; whilst I was still trying to let the hidden singer me come out !

If you happened to be at the karaoke bar that night – and now feel that you have trouble with your hearing … (wouldn’t be surprised since the whole bar sounded like a bunch of alley cats on heat)… please accept my sincere apologies !

 karaoke nights

My friend AM posted this link on FB today and I have heard the track at least 5 times already.

‘You’ is the latest single released by Schiller - the main project of Christopher von Deylen. I’ve already written about another track in which Schiller was a part of – Dream Of You – another MUST HEAR track :)

schiller feat colbie I don’t know the artist Colbie, but her voice is quite mesmerizing.  After a little bit of Googling, I found out that she is basically an American pop singer-songwriter and guitarist from Malibu, Calfornia.

I heard the song and had instant chills with goose bumps all over ! The vocals just flow over you … completely taking over your senses.  The background sounds play upon your emotions.  The echoes are hauntingly beautiful throughout the track.  You can hear the layers of trance with vocal poetry which makes it atmospheric – creating an almost enigmatic feel and draws you in immediately.

The lyrics are deep and meaningful … I know I can relate to it at some level – more than I care to admit … The words caused a flashback of memories that came flooding over me ! I didn’t need them but for a song to evoke such emotions .. that’s some pretty good stuff out there !

In essence this is a love song but not in its most traditional sense.  I get the happy – uplifting sort of feel when I hear this tune, and as much as it takes me to another place – to another lifetime almost – it keeps me rooted where I am. Does that even make sense to you ??

The video clip for ‘You’ was released in Germany on October 31st 2008.  I found the original video on You Tube but couldn’t post it on here as the embedding format was disabled – so do check it out.  I really like how the video starts with the crashing of waves under the pier.

Turn down the silence
Inside my head
Bring back the colours
Of you instead
Further from where I started
Further to go
Keeping my heart under control

Why do I still feel you ? feel you
And all you've got is to feel you, feel you
All I need is you
All I need is to feel you

Why did you change your mind and run away?
Thoughts of you by my side
Starting to fade
I know that you should be by
So I won't let go
Everyday I’m trying to get close

Why do I still feel you feel you
And all you've got is to feel you, feel you
All I need is you
All I need is to feel you

Stop running all the time
Don’t fight the feeling inside
Cause when you try it hard
Don’t matter where you go it’s deep in your soul (x3)

All i need is to feel you , feel you...

I heard this song for the first time today.  I was driving back into the city (as a Navigator actually) with my friend HS – who incidentally had taken me for an R&R break – when he finally had it with my ‘beat-y’ music and told me he was switching the tone.

I don’t really blame him – we’d quite literally heard at least 2 albums of St Germain – and he told me to put on some Leonard Cohen

Leonard-CohenUntil  earlier today, I had absolutely no clue who Leonard Cohen was.  A little research on Google tells me that he is a very well known Canadian singer-songwriter, musician, poet, novelist and artist ! He has also been in the music industry for four decades !

He was also inducted into the ‘Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame’ (2006) and The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (2008).  He also has a few Juno Awards for Vocalist and Songwriter of the year.  That’s a pretty hefty list of credentials !!

The very start of the music makes you instantly relax …. and then … THAT VOICE … the deep husky baritone and bass voice … it can make you melt ! The simple drum beats soothe every muscle in your body.  I found myself settling into the car seat and closing my eyes – and just letting Leonards’ voice take over.

I loved this song simply because not only does it have a lounge feel with a soothing melody; there is also the enough time between each line of the song allowing the listener to fully grasp and acknowledge each instrument playing and at the same time being able to ‘hear’ the lyrics word-for-word.

With most songs, even slow songs – there are some verses of the songs that one isn’t able to grasp all the words being sung.  With this track – it’s impossible not to hear all the words.  Cohen and collaborator Sharon Robinson's vocals are absolutely gorgeous throughout.  Not to mention the perfect harmony of the various instrument – take it up another notch !

The unusual combination of music and lyrics is perfect. The lyrics are sheer poetry !! and just transports you to another world … It really does feel like a secret life ….

Can you picture a memory to each word you hear … doesn’t it create a warm fuzzy feeling inside ?  Sometimes it also causes a pull in the pit of your stomach … .. slowly releasing itself into your insides … doesn’t it increase your heart beat .. just a little bit … do you feel the tightening of your heart ….

Do you hear the hum of a wind instrument against the bass and drums  ? Can you picture the fingertips gracefully moving on the keyboard … or the ones strumming the guitar ?

Do you know which verse I’m referring to with all my thoughts above ?   I closed my eyes and wrote whatever I was feeling …. I think you should try it … You never know what you come out with hehe

It’s 2:40 a.m and once I was finally settled in bed – I had already found the relevant links on youtube to find the video of the song … and have heard it at least 4-5 times at this point including whilst writing this post.

Do you have a secret life ? I think we all do … Do you find yourself drifting off … someplace … away from where you currently are … when you ‘finally’ find a few minutes to yourself .. away from your busy schedule ?

That zone .. that someplace … it’s ‘your’ time to reflect back for a little bit …on anything … and everything …  to shut out the noise and daily communication … I’d been needing to do that for a while now and didn’t even realise just how much my entire system was begging to be shut down !

Now that I think about it – earlier today I found myself allowing myself to get into the pool and just ‘float’ around … I put my sunnies on, stepped into the pool neck deep (I’m 5’7” in height) and slowly dipped my head back to get my hair wet and get over the initial cold shock – propped my toes and let my entire body lie horizontally – with arms above my head and toes peeking out of the water surface – closed eyes and submerged face aside from the edge following the outline of the sunnies.

I must have floated for 5-7 minutes at a time for close to 30 minutes – and it felt just amazing.  This song would have been perfect to listen to whilst I lay there floating in a gorgeous pool and catching the suns rays on my face (and yes I have panda eyes now ! stop giggling now !! ).

On that happy note – I’m going to go to bed now - and leave you all to hear this wonderful piece of music – and visit your secret life =)

Special Thanks to HS for introducing this amazing musician to me (and to the rest of you who didn’t know about him too)

In My Secret Life

I saw you this morning.
You were moving so fast.
Can't seem to loosen my grip
On the past.
And I miss you so much.
There's no one in sight.
And we're still making love
In My Secret Life.

I smile when I'm angry.
I cheat and I lie.
I do what I have to do
To get by.
But I know what is wrong,
And I know what is right.
And I'd die for the truth
In My Secret Life.

Hold on, hold on, my brother.
My sister, hold on tight.
I finally got my orders.
I'll be marching through the morning,
Marching through the night,
Moving cross the borders
Of My Secret Life.

Looked through the paper.
Makes you want to cry.
Nobody cares if the people
Live or die.
And the dealer wants you thinking
That it's either black or white.
Thank G-d it's not that simple
In My Secret Life.

I bite my lip.
I buy what I'm told:
From the latest hit,
To the wisdom of old.
But I'm always alone.
And my heart is like ice.
And it's crowded and cold
In My Secret Life.

Anyone a Buddha Bar fan ? Have you heard 'Desire' by Deepak Chopra featuring Demi Moore ? Yes, Demi Moore as in the actress who was once married to Bruce Wilis and now married to Ashton Kutcher !

As usual, I went and got hold of the video and it didn't cease to amaze me !! The scenic imagery, the fire red & orange sunsets, and swells of waves, completely takes my breath away.

The lyrics and rhythms of this track are just immensely soothing and yet so deep – it lays a finger on my heart.

The lyrics are almost pure and yet so humble in their meaning … honest, open, soul baring. Demi Moore's voice just adds a touch of sensual mystique to this tune.

Do we love ourselves more than we love our lovers ? Can we truly love someone unconditionally without thought for ourselves ? To experience a love where you can find your strengths in someone else is quite intense !

Passion at its peak … where your senses hunger for a touch and taste of another … you can look but cannot touch … whereby a mere glance is enough to melt you and stir a flame within.

I quite like the depth behind the 2nd last verse of the song … I am a water & air sign and love the calming effects that water brings about. The power of the ocean – in all its magnitude – is a reflection of how truly powerless we are in the face of it all. Does the ocean call out to you the way it does to me ?

Are you like the ocean – smooth on the surface, turbulence rampaging below ? Do you have the same intensity as the waters that beckon you to dare tread their surface ? Imagine being able to merge yourself as one with the ocean … to rise above the surface and engulf those around you and make them one with you ?

A lover knows only humility, he has no choice.
He steals into your alley at night, he has no choice.
He longs to kiss every lock of your hair, don't fret,
he has no choice.
In his frenzied love for you, he longs to break the chains of his imprisonment,
he has no choice.

A lover asked his beloved:
Do you love yourself more than you love me?
Beloved replied: I have died to myself and I live for you.
I've disappeared from myself and my attributes,
I am present only for you.
I've forgotten all my learnings,
but from knowing you I've become a scholar.
I've lost all my strength, but from your power I am able.

I love myself...I love you.
I love you...I love myself.

I am your lover, come to my side,
I will open the gate to your love.
Come settle with me, let us be neighbours to the stars.
You have been hiding so long, endlessly drifting in the sea of my love.
Even so, you have always been connected to me.
Concealed, revealed, in the unknown, in the un-manifest.
I am life itself.

You have been a prisoner of a little pond,
I am the ocean and its turbulent flood.
Come merge with me,
leave this world of ignorance.
Be with me, I will open the gate to your love.

I desire you more than food or drink
My body my senses my mind hunger for your taste
I can sense your presence in my heart
although you belong to all the world
I wait with silent passïon for one gesture one glance
from you.

David Guetta the pioneer of French house with Up & Way, a garage-style track with vocals by Robert Owens released in 1992 really made a name for himself in the mid-90s as one of the key catalysts of Parisian nightlife by promoting evenings at such renowned Paris hot spots as Folies Pigalle, Queen, Bataclan, Palace and Les Bains, where he invited DJ legends like Little Louie Vega, David Morales, DJ Pierre and Roger Sanchez to join him on the turntables. In 2001, however, he went back to his first love: making music.

The World Is Mine has been 'strongly influenced' by Depeche Mode, and indeed it's strikingly similar in sound and style to the 90’s synth pop pioneers. It has a fine beat, is melodious, and the dance floors have been going mad about it. David succeeds in tingeing his work with a slightly darker, more foreboding dimension, creating something that is both uplifting, yet strangely edgy at the same time. The commercial package also features a superb percussion-based remix from Deep Dish.

Developing progressively via synths, ominous riffs and a Dave Gahan style vocal chanting 'mine, the world is mine', the mix builds and builds before collapsing in a predictable but nonetheless fantastic breakdown before taking off for two more minutes of thumping electro-house action. C’est Fantastique!

This is not just one of my all-time favourite dance tunes but also the top tune for all my cousins !! There is no way that if this track is playing – that any of us would not be on the dance floor ! Every time I hear this tune, I’m elated. It is almost as if the beats become one with my heart beat, and the vocals are a part of the blood flow within me. The lyrics seem to just ease through my body, my veins as the lyrics go.

It is a MUST HAVE on any CD that I make for my listening pleasure – or a part of the playlists at any parties. Over the course of the last 24 hours, I have probably heard this song about a handful of times varying from my car, a house party, a night club, even as a ringtone on my friends’ phone ! I can completely lose myself to the stirring rhythms … the track is mixed to build-up a delirious range of emotions … sensual, edgy, sharp and it totally hits a spot :)

I don't know about your musical preferences but this track is a natural high !! I can close my eyes and completely lose myself in the vocals ... do you ever feel like the world is really just all yours ?

That rush one gets driving down an empty stretch of road ... no one there except for you ... you control the road, the environment around you .. euphoric achievement perhaps ? There is no fear ... just the bare feeling of being at one with the world and that the world is really all mine :)

I believe in the wonder
I believe this new life to gain
Like a God that I'm under
There's a drugs running through my veins

I believe in the wonder
I believe I can touch the flame
There's a spell that I'm under
Got to fly, I don't feel no shame

The world is mine
The world is mine
The world is mine

I've lost my fear to war and peace
I don't mind that (the world is mine)
You took the price and realize
That to your eyes (the world is mine)

Take a look what you've started
In the world flashing from your eyes
And you know that you've got it
From the thunder you feel inside

I believe in the feeling
All the pain that you left to die
Believe in believing
In the life that you give to try

The world is mine
The world is mine
The world is mine

I've lost my fear to what appears
I do my best(the world is mine)
You seem surprised and realize
That to your eyes (the world is mine)

The world is mine
I've lost my fear to what appears
I do my best(the world is mine)
You seem surprised and realize
That to your eyes (the world is mine)

I've lost my fear to what appears
I do my best (the world is mine)
You seem surprised and realize

That to your eyes (the world is mine)

I heard this track for the first time earlier this evening and felt an immediate connection to it :) and had to find out the name ...

Wolfsheim - Dream of You

Here's a bit of background on the artist if you don't already know ...

Wolfsheim was a synthpop band (a subgenre of New Wave in which the synthesizer is the dominant musical instrument) from Hamburg, Germany.

The band was founded in 1987 by Markus Reinhardt and Pompejo Ricciardi. They were inspired by the name of a fictional character from F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby.

Wolfsheim's style takes cues from the 1980s New Romantics and New Wave; their lyrics tend to be melancholic, but at the same time modernist.

Now as I mentioned before - I'm not much one for lyrics - I prefer to listen to beats ... and this tune had it 'all' ... some wickedly sensual beats, deep lyrics and an intensity that I just don't know how to explain.

I got home a little while ago and went on the hunt for the lyrics - and thanks to the gods of google, a couple of key words - and voila ! On first reading - the words don't mean so much - and it feels sort of 'low', 'depressed', .. you get my drift ?

By the time I had found the lyrics - I'd also managed to download the actual song and find the youtube video ... and before you roll your eyeballs ... I've paid for enough CD's over the last decade !!

I played the track with the head phones on, closed my eyes, letting my fingers find a life of their own .. and here's the product ......
... my fingers type words that I do not know .. a shudder going through my blood cells with a tingle all the way down to my toes ... it's making me dizzy ... I'm spinning .. I can actually feel myself get lost to the beats and the bass ... my breath has become shallow .. paced .. my mind is a whirlwind of activity ... no .... energy would be the right word ... the rhythm behind those beats combined with the way the words have been used .. it engulfs me - taking my breath away !

Daaammnn ... pretty emotive for someone who was typing with their eyes closed ... hmmm ... you will just have to hear the track the way I have to possibly understand what I'm trying to explain here ...

It's a pretty upbeat start to the track which automatically gets your toes tapping :) If you enjoy listening to beats then this is definitely a track you need to hear ... Extremely uplifting ... it'll make you smile .. even if you aren't a 'house / trance' type of person ... The beats and the lyrics are quite contradictory actually when you think about it ...

We've all always been here all along and each of us has been at some point or the other - in search of that someone ... you have a vision - 'dream' as the lyrics go - of what this person is going to be like .. how compatible they are going to be to your life .. and perhaps whilst we are going about our daily lives and just living life as it is our very last day ... there come days when you wonder why there is that 'something lacking' feeling ? Despite the fullness you have around you - there is some small part of you - no matter how deeply hidden away - that is floating in loneliness ...

It's kinda obvious that we as humans need someone at some point or the other to share our lives with .. more so - we need that significant other - who is able to dig into your soul and see what no other can see about you ... Is that the vision you have ? Is that the vibes the beats are giving off ?

I'm now hearing this track for the fourth time as I ramble on .. and I'm thoroughly enjoying it .. I'm smiling, tapping my feet, grooving even :) It's one of those tracks that I can see myself completely letting go to at a club ... The rhythm just makes you want to sway your body in time with the beats ...

I've been here all the time
As far as I know doing right

I've always waited for the moment
That you would come through my door

But this brought loneliness so far

I lay my hand onto my heart

Is this a life I want to live?
Is this the dream I had of you? (2x)

Now I'm standing here alone

Waiting on my own

For something that will fill the emptiness inside

The moment that you're mine

But this is loneliness I know
I lay my hand onto my soul

Is this what life has got to give?

Is this the dream I had of you?

... the dream I had of you?

I was driving down an empty stretch of road the other night - a rarity in the city - and was flipping tracks on the mp3 player - when George Michael's 'Amazing' came on.

Considering I was returning home from a night of dancing, this was the last song I expected to be turning up the volume to ! Don't get me wrong, I've always liked this track, otherwise it wouldn't be on that particular CD .. but something just sort of sparked in me ...

Have you actually 'heard' the lyrics ? I'm not much of a lyrics person - I love beats ... but after hearing this track that night in full volume, I 'needed' to get the lyrics and just read it, 'know it' .. it felt like I would be missing out if I didn't actually know what this sexy man was trying to let his audience feel ...

I found myself humming to th
e song - and actually singing at one point with a huge grin on my face ! and the best part of it all once I read the lyrics .. I am completely and utterly single ! And you know what .. It doesn't matter at all :)

I could put the words of this - to quite a few incidents in my life ... Every new relationship we enter - be it with a new friend, colleague, co-worker, boyfriend / girlfriend - are we actually entering them completely openly ?? Aren't we all a bit mixed up ourselves at some point or the other ?

And don't we all hit a point where we look back and just think .. 'DAMN .. that guy / girl / man / woman made me feel AMAZING' ? .. so then why are we not with that person ? There must be enough of reason for that - good, bad or ugly .. and yet, it's 'that' person we think of .. it's a person from your past ...

For me, it is almost a flash back of my past .. a sort of inner celebration that just cannot be explained in words (or perhaps just not at this moment in time) .. This is not to say that I'm not content with my present .. maybe I just feel that way with this song ... I'll explore this some more .. or maybe it's just a random mood phase !

So anyway - here are the lyrics ... I hope you take a few minutes to hear the song yourself, and hopefully let me know how you felt when you hear it ..

I was mixed up when you came to me
Too broke to fix
Said'daddy get you gone, I'm missing my baby'
Still missing my baby

I was stitched up by the hands of fate
Said how you gonna make it on your own
If luck is a lady?
Maybe luck is a lady

I was going down for the third time
My heart was broken, I was not open to your suggestions
I had so many questions
That you just kissed away

Tell me, I guess that cupid was in disguise
That day you walked in and changed my life
I think it's amazing
The way that love can set you free

So now I walk in the midday sun
I never thought that my savior would come
I think it's amazing
I think it's amazing

I think you're amazing

You tried to save me from myself
Said 'Darling, kiss as many as you want!
My love's still available
And I know you're insatiable'

We're like victims of the same disease
Look at your Big Bad Daddy, and your mom
And your mom...was always acting crazy

I was going down for the third time
My heart was broken, I thought that loving you was out of the question
Then I saw my reflection
Saying please don't let this go

Tell me, I guess that cupid was in disguise
That day you walked in and changed my life
I think it's amazing
The way that love can set you free

So now I walk in the midday sun
I never thought that my savior would come
I think it's amazing
I think you're amazing

Celebrate the love of the one you're with

Celebrate, this life with your baby
I think you should celebrate yeah
Don't put your love in chains baby
No no, walk in the midday sun
I thought I was dreaming
I think it's amazing
I think you're amazing

I said celebrate the love of the one you're with

As this life gets colder
And the devil inside
Tells you to give up
