Quite a simple track – but there’s something ‘special’ about it don’t you think ? Its something of a mix of happy and sad.

The actual beat of the track is very peppy when you think about how ‘sad’ the actual lyrics can be … Hmm I have noticed a slight pattern here …any ‘emotional’ song I tend to like has very upbeat lyrics !
Sometimes I feel like I’m absolutely high on music .. especially on the dance floor … I need that this week – something has been missing .. the lack of dancing … So dance the week away folks !

The thing I find about great songs, is that they are crafted in a way that they tell a story, not necessarily with its words, but with rhythm, dynamics and feel.
There are countless arguments and discussions into what makes a great song, but as a songwriter, I know that there is a limited science to creating a great song. Songs are made to find an audience, and it’s the audience, not the critics or even the musicians that determine when a song is great. So the question I’m going to explore is one that all songwriters ask. What makes a great song, great?
Some of the song writing greats such as Burt Bacharach and Diane Warren seem to have a magic formula that has produced a succession of hits through a multitude of artists. Lennon and McCartney have a catalogue of songs that have shaped music as we know it today. Today, the likes of Bruno Mars and Alicia Keys storm the pop charts with their work. Then there are those artists who have come up with the great hit song, for it only to be surrounded by boring ‘filler’ tracks on an album.
More often than not, I’ve found that the great songs need time and a few rounds to develop and mature. Paul McCartney noted in his autobiography, that the first draft of his prolific song ‘Yesterday’ were remarkably different. The opening line was ‘Scrambled eggs, oh my baby how I love your legs’.
The problem with today’s popular music, is that a lot of it isn’t that popular with the masses that are still forced to listen to it. My theory, is that the producers are given a tight deadline and have to move quickly and force songs to be manufactured in a short timeframe. Often the artist’s best work, whilst it may take a shorter time to write, needs much longer for it to develop and mature. This could explain why ‘break through’ artists, only break through, with their first album. Their second album is rushed, to catch the audience’s attention span, with the songs less organic and more processed.
More often than not, the songwriter is often a taunted soul, often mocked by creativity itself, as that creative spark is not a tap they can turn on and off at will. Trying too hard to create a story can sometimes render the writer, lost for words.
I would argue that songwriting is more of a craft than an art, just as the act of painting is the craft and the painting itself is the art. Great songs are crafted, and it could take 10 minutes or it could take 10 weeks. However, in my experience I feel that my best songs seem to have found me, rather than me creating them. It almost seems like these songs are stories from the subconscious.
I’ve been in the mood to dance for the past week or so now and starting next week it looks like I’ll be dancing for the next 
I’m not much of a J-Lo fan and let’s not get me started on how silly some of her videos are (including this one). The whole dusted in gold look is not the most appealing; the video didn’t require this – she’s hot as hell without it !

So much can be said for music. When you hear the word ‘music’ it sort of makes you take a step back and a flash flood of all your favourite tunes whiz by in your mind. Sometimes it makes you smile, sometimes it makes you teary eyed – regardless of how you react – the thing about music is that it always makes you react in some way or form.
Sometime ago I put together the Diva’s Top 40 tunes; and now I have part 2 ready for you all. Hope you enjoy this collection of tunes.
I would love to know if any of these track have had an impact on you or made you connect with a memory from another time. It’s always nice to associate a part of your life with a piece of music. That’s how I feel anyway.

I’ve been in a mood to go out dancing for a while now .. and I mean proper dancing – the kind where you just don’t stop and create a bit of a stir on the dance floor ! I just wish that clubs played better music – had a better crowd – and better dancers .. it would be so much more fun. No wonder I’ve taken to dancing in my car – some people in the cars around me look at me like I’m a bit crazy but I don’t care.
It’s Monday folks which means it’s time for another #MusicMonday … woke up this morning and heard this tune … daaaaaamn it’s a such a chill beat; had me wishing I was waking up next to the beach instead of in the city !
I don’t know much about the group Avatars of Dub but I believe one of the members was part of the Thievery Corporation (another music group) at some point.
There’s something about this tune which is mellow and yet very sensual all at the same time .. no wonder the track got name Sex Elevator Music !
I couldn’t quite put my finger on a track to share for today – so decided to put together a few birthday tunes that seemed like a lot of fun.
I really like this particular track – the guy has a really smooth voice ! And we’ve all gotta party like it’s our birthday – go all out and just enjoy !

MM # 68 : LMFAO – Sexy & You Know It
I’m totally feeling this tune ! Especially after the super fun wedding we just finished planning in Pune ! This was the (un)official theme song of the wedding.
I have a video of the groom wiggling away on the coach to Pune; and his mates took it one step further and wiggled across India and sent us the wiggly proof as well !

Definitely one of the top tunes in my car these days; and after the ‘sun down’ session we had at my mates’ b’day yesterday – its the perfect track to kick start the week.
I must add that Pitbull is pulling off some brilliant collaborations and I’ve been feeling most of his tunes !
With the way my weekend was – it really was as if there was fire burning !! NC and I got home on Saturday night after an event at the new lounge we’re managing and damn our feet were on fire !!! We could not walk .. it was painful to even attempt … and in the morning our feet were still burning up !!!
That’s the sign of a perfectly fab night out and a successful event !!! So please excuse the fact that I’m a day late in putting up my #MM track.
I was going through my old music posts and had to re-post this … The original post can be found here. From the moment I heard this track (sometime at the end of 2008) I felt an immediate connection to it :)
As I’ve mentioned before - I'm not much one for lyrics - I prefer to listen to beats ... and this tune had it 'all' ... some wickedly sensual beats, deep lyrics and an intensity that I just don't know how to explain.
I had come home that night and put my head phones on - closed my eyes, letting my fingers find a life of their own and here’s what I came up with …
... my fingers type words that I do not know .. a shudder going through my blood cells with a tingle all the way down to my toes ... it's making me dizzy ... I'm spinning .. I can actually feel myself get lost to the beats and the bass ... my breath has become shallow .. paced .. my mind is a whirlwind of activity ... no .... energy would be the right word ... the rhythm behind those beats combined with the way the words have been used .. it engulfs me - taking my breath away !
Today I as tweak this post – I’ve put back the headphones and closed my eyes and here’s what my magic fingers dished out …
I can feel the music echo through my veins … through every pore of my body … there’s something about it … that engulfs me … the back beat – its almost as if I can feel my own heart beat racing … I think I know now what an out of body experience might be like … I can feel myself being lifted .. my soul is floating within me … the vocals send shivers down the back of my neck ..
Just had a look at what I typed up …. perhaps you will just have to hear the track the way I have to possibly understand what I'm trying to convey here ...
If you enjoy listening to beats then this is definitely a track you need to hear ... Extremely uplifting ... it'll make you smile .. even if you aren't a 'house / trance' type of person ...
The beats and the lyrics are quite contradictory actually when you think about it ... We've all always been here all along and each of us has been at some point or the other - in search of that someone ... you have a vision - 'dream' as the lyrics go - of what this person is going to be like .. how compatible they are going to be to your life .. and perhaps whilst we are going about our daily lives and just living life as it is our very last day ... there come days when you wonder why there is that 'something lacking' feeling ? Despite the fullness you have around you - there is some small part of you - no matter how deeply hidden away - that is floating in loneliness ...
It's kinda obvious that we as humans need someone at some point or the other to share our lives with .. more so - we need that significant other - who is able to dig into your soul and see what no other can see about you ... Is that the vision you have ? Is that the vibes the beats are giving off ?

My best friend left back for London today. And the only words I could say to her were ‘please don’t go’.
I feel like a chunk of my soul has been ripped out of me right now. The two weeks she was here visiting felt like a brand new life line for me; and whilst the days just merged into each other – suddenly it’s gone by way to fast – and I’m almost back to where I started.
There are very few people who make a difference in our lives .. and she is one of them. DA is my soul sister, my dancing & dating diva, my confidante and a ‘true’ friend.
This song seemed apt to use for Music Monday. However since I’m absolutely clueless when it comes to song names / lyrics – it might be too cheesy (even when I hear it now – it comes off as that LOL) … but you see my point .. ‘please don’t go’ … If you can recommend any other nice ‘friend’ songs – that would be great – at least I can add to my current collection.
As you have probably noticed that I’m all about the house and dance music =) I heard this tune sometime last year and then again at the clubs in Bombay a few months ago. The track has a super peppy beat …. the lyrics are kinda average but then again I don’t listen to music for their lyrics (unless it really strikes me of course)
So who on earth is INNA ? Actually her name is Elena and she is a dance singer from Mangalia, Romania. This track actually hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Dance Airplay.
Have you heard this track ? What do you think about it ? The title appealed to me ‘cos right now I’m boiling up and feeling super hot ! That’s what a 102 fever can do !!! *sigh* hope your Monday is going better than mine !

This is a wicked tune ! And I reckon if more people were straight up about their intentions there’d be a lot less whining and crying in the world. Ok maybe not – it might lead to a higher rate of initial pain but in the long run that attitude works best.
Even though the track is about a total player being unabashedly honest about his persona – it’s got some kind of appeal. I suppose the appeal is that everyone – guys and gals alike – want some sort clear cut honesty when they meet someone.
If I’m going to spend my free time with someone – the least they can do is be clear about their intentions and motives. Many may not agree with this; whilst quite a few will. My life is an open canvas – if you’re going to scribble or doodle – you might as well just paint the picture already =P
What are your thoughts on this track ? Do you agree with what I have to say ? Or do you disagree ? and why ? I can be quite a blunt person – so I suppose that’s why I’d appreciate the honesty behind the lyrics; and it would make life so much simpler if the men I meet just told me what they wanted (i.e. be friends, date, do business or just hook up and take it from there) instead of beating around the bush and eventually landing up in the friend-zone !

Sure maybe when you actually pay attention to the lyrics – then perhaps it might be a bit sad … but somehow the artist has managed to turn that sadness into some sort of logic for themselves … I suppose it makes for a peppy sad song LOL … I don’t even know WHY I got onto that tangent …
But regardless of what anyone wants to make of the track … I just think its got an awesome beat; and makes for a fab tune to dance on ! My mate HRH and I can rock the dance floor on this !

This song just brings back some amazing memories .. and whilst deciding on today’s Music Monday track I thought about my cousin NC … She’s been traveling between London and New York the past 1 month and I’ve missed her terribly (obviously I don’t admit so much to her but since she reads this blog – she’ll know about it) .. and I wanted to dedicate today’s post to her as she got back into town today !
Do any of you know this track ? The first time I heard it was about 8 years ago in Montreal … I was involved in a group called CASA (Commerce & Administrative Student Association) and we were organizing and putting together an entire fashion show. One of my mates MP got this track to my attention and I’m so glad we used it !

This is the perfect ‘pick-me up and get me in the mood’ track and it’s just what the doctor ordered for a Monday morning !
Here’s a bit of background on the artist – Tocadisco – who is based in Cologne, Germany and started Djing around the age of 16; and turned professional in the year 2000. Surprisingly though – he had no musical education and taught himself how to play several instruments and got into producing.
It’s just so peppy and up-beat with a fab build up to it ! I love listening to this track at almost deafening levels in the car – especially on a night out when the roads are clear ! The thrill of speeding down an open road to some great music – it’s really quite exhilarating !
Even if you aren’t a house / dance music lover – I’m pretty sure you would enjoy this track – especially if you are in the right mind frame. Would love to know whether you’ve heard this song before and what you think about it ? How does it make you feel RIGHT NOW when you’re hearing it ?
I always thought this track was called ‘Sadness’ until I found out that ‘Sadeness’ was the original name for the German release of this track; ‘Sadness’ was used for the UK and Japan release.
The reason behind picking this song is because it just seems to fit in with my mood. I can’t quite describe how I am feeling except that I’m questioning everything that crosses my mind.
Whenever I have felt upset, down-in-the-dumps, or frustrated – this song just seems to ‘relate’ to that particular feeling. It allows my mind to visualize. And right now there’s a huge gulf of emptiness inside of me – and I’m not quite sure how best to handle it.
I’ve always wondered about the lyrics of this song, but never really went out of my way to find out anything about it … until today. The song is actually made up of Latin & French lyrics; the Latin text includes a quotation from Psalm 24:7-8. Whilst browsing YouTube, I came across this video which has the Latin & French lyrics (along with Polish I think) as well as the English translation.
