My friend AM posted this link on FB today and I have heard the track at least 5 times already.

‘You’ is the latest single released by Schiller - the main project of Christopher von Deylen. I’ve already written about another track in which Schiller was a part of – Dream Of You – another MUST HEAR track :)

I don’t know the artist Colbie, but her voice is quite mesmerizing.  After a little bit of Googling, I found out that she is basically an American pop singer-songwriter and guitarist from Malibu, Calfornia. 

I heard the song and had instant chills with goose bumps all over ! The vocals just flow over you … completely taking over your senses.  The background sounds play upon your emotions.  The echoes are hauntingly beautiful throughout the track.  You can hear the layers of trance with vocal poetry which makes it atmospheric – creating an almost enigmatic feel and draws you in immediately.

The lyrics are deep and meaningful … I know I can relate to it at some level – more than I care to admit … The words caused a flashback of memories that came flooding over me ! I didn’t need them but for a song to evoke such emotions .. that’s some pretty good stuff out there !

In essence this is a love song but not in its most traditional sense.  I get the happy – uplifting sort of feel when I hear this tune, and as much as it takes me to another place – to another lifetime almost – it keeps me rooted where I am. Does that even make sense to you ??

The video clip for ‘You’ was released in Germany on October 31st 2008.  I found the original video on You Tube but couldn’t post it on here as the embedding format was disabled – so do check it out.  I really like how the video starts with the crashing of waves under the pier.

This is one of the few songs that I know the lyrics off– or atleast most of the lyrics.

It’s amazing how there is a perfect song that can aptly describe how one is feeling at a particular moment in time.

I don’t know if I am in love – and if I am – who I am in love with ??  Perhaps the idea of being in love is appealing. 

I think I’ve reached a point in my life where I want to spend my time with someone who ‘means’ something to me; someone who I can’t imagine being without; someone who can make the impossible seem possible when I am with him.

The words of this song are so simple and yet have such depth and meaning behind it.  It would make my heart melt if someone had to dedicate this to me =)  It’s okay to wish isn’t it =P

The keyboard background is quite basic – just a set of various chords; the simple bass beats on the drums; there is the electric guitar somewhere in there too that makes its appearances … Its the simplicity behind the track that makes it so special.

I’m sure most of you have heard this song; even if you have or haven’t, do take a few minutes just to hear and read the lyrics (I found a version on YouTube that has the track with lyrics) … I can guarantee that once you read the words, it’ll leave a smile on your face. 

For those of you with significant others, I guess you can relate to this.  For those singletons out in the neighbourhood, our soul mate is out somewhere waiting to cross paths with us =)

I’ve been feeling this tune for a few years now … I don’t even remember the first time I heard it but about 2 years ago – for a period of a few weeks – I had to hear this track at least once a day to get my daily fix.

 

Curiosity always gets the better of me and I went to go dig up the video (Thank you God for bringing YouTube into our lives!).  I watched it – and it’s really not what I expected for the kind of track that it is.  Although to be honest – I didn’t really have any sort of expectation of the video.

 

 

I quite like the start of the track … The vibes off the tune just make me want to get lost in the music … I’m normally not one for lyrics – but I like the lyrics on this one.   Perhaps I haven’t paid too much attention to them – however in my mind – the beats combined with the vocals make for a very sexy song !  There’s that sexual innuendo behind the music .. do you feel it too ?

Have you heard this song before ? What do you think about it ?  I can associate this track with some good times =)  There have been special moments in the past; if I’m feeling nostalgic – I might backtrack and reminisce on some memories – but then pull myself together … sometimes that feeling can be too much or too intense.

Was going through my collection of images that I liked and came across this one which I wanted to share with you all.

What do you think about this picture as a whole ? The image and the text ? It really caught my attention. I love the tribal drum; the blurry hands and hint of knee.

I haven’t written about music in a while. I’ve been keeping it to myself almost. Rhythm and beats are quite a part of my daily life. I am not OTT – I don’t even own an iPod; and my last possessed MP3 player is playing a disappearing act with me. I have close to 3464 tracks of music on my laptop which include a huge variety of English, Arabic, Hindi, Punjabi, French, and Spanish songs.

I can’t go about in a moving car without music. When I was younger – the only way I could fall asleep would be if I had the stereo playing something in the back ground. Nowadays - after learning the value of paying my own electricity bills – I no longer do that =(

I’m currently listening to Armin Van Buuren’s – Face to Face (Martin Roth Remix) and it’s a perfect tune for a ‘pick-me-up’ and a great way to start a Monday morning =)

The music starts of slightly loud with a back beat that’s gradually building it’s tempo … there are some very light vocals which blend into the background – and you can still feel that pulsing beat building up … It’s continuous rhythmic flow is almost hypnotising – you could almost forget the additional beats on the track … and that’s just the beginning !

The beats are uplifting, and have a melodic flow through out. Even if you aren’t a house or funky house listening – I’m sure you’d be able to hear this track out at least once. The electric piano comes in around 2:44, leaving behind its single solitary notes, echoing throughout - there is a slow momentous build up – it flows directly into you with every breath inhaled … Close your eyes, and just feel the music, let the beats vibrate through your body, let it reach your soul … Did you just feel the pull against your heart ? Let your blood dance through your veins in tune with the rhythms behind this track … Feel the finale of the track wash through your entire body – leaving behind a tingling sensation ?

I went out dancing the other night with my friend YK - not the regular 'let's go to a club and bop around' but something more demanding; more sensuous and that requires energy and attitude ... Salsa !

If you don't know what Salsa is - Salsa dancing mixes African and European dance influences through the music and dance fusions that are the roots of Salsa: SonGuaguancó, Rumba, Boogaloo, Pachanga, Guaracha, Plena, Bomba.

The dance boasts of infinite breathtakingly intricate patterns and combinations; whilst spins and turns form an inherent part of salsa dancing !

Have you ever danced the Salsa ?? Have you ever watched two people Salsa Dancing? Simply put - isn't it just mesmerizing ? Everytime I watch couples doing the salsa, it seems magical and liberating all at the same time !

It's a different kick altogether once you're on the dance floor - especially with a good partner. Haven't you ever noticed that people tend to eye the 'best dancers' in a club ? Don't you wish sometimes YOU were that dancer and have eyes on you ? (or maybe I just love the attention hehe)

I've always been attracted to good dancers - it's just one of those things that I find appealing in an individual (male or female - and no I am not attracted to women - but am the first to appreciate and acknowledge a good looking woman). It just blows my mind that someone can lead me on the dance floor and just let me let go of myself ! After a tough day at work; the best remedy is a great dance partner.

I must have noticed YK the first time perhaps over a year ago when I used to go to a bar that hosted Salsa sessions on Sundays. My cousin NM (not NC this time) and I always had our eye on him - and were taken aback that there were men in this city that could just move the way he was doing !

A few months ago - another friend AB was visiting from Paris and I had gone to attend a party hosted by him - and bumped into YK out there. Aside from AB - I didn't know anyone out there - and typical of myself - I found myself chatting to YK and next thing I knew - we were strutting our moves in the middle of the living room which was our makeshift dancefloor ! Since then, I discovered that YK is friends with a colleague at work; and we developed our own rapport.

For anyone that knows me - salsa has been a form of dancing that has interested me for years ... I'm not a professional nor do I confess to be on par with any regular dancers but I'm pretty good if I must say so myself.

So when YK suggested a bout of salsa dancing - I didn't hesitate to say 'yes' !! We went down to a chill out bar / lounge near my workplace, and settled down with a Cosmo for me; a Chenin Blanc for him; and just let the music settle in. After half our drinks were done, we went onto the dance floor - or rather - he led me onto the dance floor.

I felt slightly rusty (who wouldn't after not dancing for a few years - although I try to practice with another friend HRH whevever given the chance) and a bit inadequate as I was wearing flat slippers and had left my heels in the car. Even though YK was willing for me to go back to the car and get the much needed heels - I thought to myself - doens't matter - just dance =)

And we did ! In fact we were the first pair on the dance floor as the bar was quite empty at the time. It was a much needed adrenalin rush after the last few weeks and especially after the annoying turn of events on Tuesday ! I must have let myself go completely (a bit too much as I did mess up a few steps LOL and the gent that YK is - he never let on) and just lose myself in the arms of a partner who knew how to twist and turn my body in ways only a professional gymnast could do ! I surprised myself at actually being able to do the moves - but hell if I can do them with HRH - then I can do the same with YK - just need to get used to YK =)

For the next hour or so - it was just about enjoying the music and being entralled by the couples who were dancing ! It humbles you watching others move ever so gracefully; with passion in every step; a teasing glint in the eye daring their partner to take each step just a bit further; watching the fall of a womans' hair whilst being dipped (YK you need to dip me too) !

At the end of the night - we agreed that we must do this more often - especially since it was so close by to my work. In fact NC and another friend SJ are also meant to join us one of these coming weeks =)

My evening ended on a superbly high note and I slept like a baby after working the dancing muscles that were in need of some exercise =)

Funnily enough - and I just noticed the coincidence right now - the first person I ever danced to salsa with (and what a night it was) has the initials KY and - it so happens that my current dance partner is YK. I find that quite cool - maybe it means something =)
