A is for About You & Your Blog

By | 14:23 16 comments

AIt’s quite simple really.  The way I see it – the about me / about the author should give your first time readers a quick glimpse of your personality and possibly what they can expect from your blog.

If your blog is going to be focused on a specific topic then the blog URL, the blog title should reflect that; if you are a sporadic blogger like myself then the name should indicate that.

I’ve created some headers at the top of my blog to segregate my blog posts since I don’t really have a theme to my blog other than the fact that it is very sporadic.  So I’ve got sections such as  ‘Music’, ‘Poetry’, ‘Reflections’, ‘Relationships’, ‘Wordless Wednesday’, ‘Sexy Saturday’ (a meme I created for fun) and ‘Diva’s Guests’ which features all my guest bloggers.  I think it makes it easy for a reader to select what kind of posts they may want to read and to see if the topics appeal to them.

Also be prepared to be ‘accountable’ for your blog.  If you’re gonna have an opinion about a subject be ready for people to counter your opinion and make sure you have facts to back it up.   That’s where ‘attribution’ comes – don’t forget to link back to sites where you get your sources from (whether it be statistics or even images).

Diva’s Discovery

There’s a cool site that I would like to share with you all called ‘about.me’ and it basically lets you put all your social media profiles onto one website and are even doing a promotional offer of giving out business cards with your details on it.  Definitely worth checking out especially if you can tweak the html code to direct your ‘about’ link to this site.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaay that’s my first post done for the A to Z Challenge ! Feel free to share a link to your ‘about’ page in the comments so that others in bloggersville can visit you.

Agree with you! The about section is soooo important to people understanding who you are and what you're about . Interestingly enough, bar a couple of trolls I don't think I've had many controversies. What topic has caused you most problems?

Well done on completing post one! I've got as far as three but need to get organised and map out the rest :)

I've not had any problems.. yet... but I'm still relatively new to the blogging scene so there's time I'm sure. Would be interested to know what topics you would advise to avoid!
I'm totally with you on the name reflecting your blogs identity- the amount of times I've come across a blog which has absolutely nothing to do with the title frustrates me beyond belief!
Well done on completely A! And happy April! :)

@The Hopeful Romantic .. I've managed to get posts A to D ready and currently working on the rest; still struggling with my trouble letters though :(

I recall one post which was about breast feeding that caused quite a stir; and I felt the wrath of Mommies coming at me ! This was when I first tried my hand at blogging and used a site called 'soul cast'

@Natalie - thank you for swinging by and sharing your comment :) There are no topics that I would 'avoid' - its more about how you pen your thoughts down. One topic I was commenting on another blog about first time sexual experiences, caused a bit of a stir on responsibility of actions

I'm with you on that - it does get on my nerves when I find a blog with a title that appeals to me but the content has nothing to do with it !

@Kavita .. awww !! you're my super supporter :) it's knowing that I have awesome readers like you out there that inspire me to keep putting out posts :)

Really useful post, and it's reminded me to update my "about page". Thanks.

And I'm going to check out the link now.

Good reminder indeed. There are sooo many different types of About Me pages out there, as many as there are personalities. But it's hard to make your "about" page representative, and it helps to see what others have done with theirs. Thanks for bringing it into discussion!
Oh, and here's mine (so far). :P

@Clare .. thanks for stopping by ! looking forward to reading about the paranormal romance that you are writing :)

@Veronica .. thanks for sharing your 'about' link - I absolutely loved it! You've really gone all across the board in terms of what you have studied and what you are doing creatively and your current day job ! WOW is all I have to say !

This is a great blog challenge. It is hard sometimes to get a new idea for a blog. And I should work on my About Me section.

Popping by to say hi from the A to Z challenge. I chose my blog name for the reason you mentioned. I didn't want to be pigeon holed I want to be able to talk about whatever I feel like talking about.

@A Daft Scot Lass .. your about page is fab ! It would take me a while to put together 100 things about me just 'cos how does one narrow down all the things you want someone else to know about you

@MAJK .. that's good to know :) at least I'm sharing newsworthy info ! Looking forward to your posts as well.

@Papel1 aka Judy .. Totally agree, by taking part in such a challenge, one gets to focus on the task at hand and seek out inspiration from the set parameters :)

Do let me know know which of your 3 blogs are part of the challenge so I can bookmark it.

@Retro-Zombie aka Jeremy you're funny & I'm enjoying your blog; have stopped by a few times :)

@TheJerseyShoreMom .. thanks for stopping by & sharing :) looking forward to your posts during the challenge :)
