DJ Play That Tune !

music-quotes-sayings-meaningful-short-positive_large

Who doesn’t like music ? I’m yet to come across someone who really detests the idea of listening to music. There was a time when I couldn’t go to sleep without having any music playing (all that changed once I actually started paying my own electricity bills). ‘Enter Sandman’ by Metallica was my sleeping song back in 1993 (yes, I used to sleep through Metallica!)

I can’t drive or sit in a car that doesn’t play some sort of music.  I get really fidgety without it.  One will always find a few CDs in my car – and can enjoy a wide array of tunes (with and without lyrics).  I’m a huge fan of house / dance / trance and also RnB .. basically anything with a beat that lets me dance.  I used to go to a lot of raves during my university days … such fun !!!

The only music I don’t listen to is Country; although one track sticks with me – ‘Beautiful Sunday’ – the original is by Daniel Boone – I don’t recall which female singer did a remake of it but it was on one of my Moms’ cassettes back in the early 90’s. i The other is Bollywood music.  I don’t mind the older Indian music but some of the newer music is just plain trash !  I honestly feel like I need to be really wasted to even dance to it.  I DO however reaaaaaaally enjoy UK Bhangra music.

Do you favour any particular genres of music or are you open to all genres ?  Do you go through phases ? Are you the type who needs to have music constantly around them or only when you are in the mood ?  Why don’t you check out some of my favourite tunes and let me know what you think about them.

Musical Emotions

479972_517399108278126_1326658628_nIt’s quite normal to associate specific music to certain people or past incidents / escapades.

Have you ever heard a song that really makes you react to it ?  It could be a song that you may have never heard before.  Something about the beat, melody, instruments, or lyrics that sends shivers down your spine or causes you to get goose bumps ?  Sometimes a piece of music makes your eyes well up and your breath is left caught at the back of your throat.  And have you noticed that the majority of times when that happens is because ‘someone’ came to mind ?  It could be anyone – a friend, a sibling, family member, your spouse, current partner, or an ex.

Our minds are like sponges – we absorb things around us that we may not even realize until much later.  It tends to happen with music.  Music and emotions go hand in hand the way I see it.

Take What You Need

Day 19On the subject of choosing your mood and being in-charge of your feelings; what about if we could just ‘hand-pick’ a mood / emotion whenever wanted ?  I came across this on ‘WeHeartIt’ and had to share ! I wouldn’t mind having a few of these stuck around at home, at the office, and in my car (driving in Bombay brings out road rage in me).

Come to think of it, right now I need some love and passion in my life – preferably from a hot man =)  I also need the patience to deal with some very frustrating people in my work space.

What about you - what do you need today ?

Why Do We Complicate Everything ?

Around this time last year, I wrote about a post called ‘Why Complicate Life’ which was inspired by an image which posed some very honest, yet frank questions .. to which the answers were so simple that it makes you stop and think about ‘why’ we tend to complicate even the simplest of things.   It was the common-sense responses that caught my attention and I gave myself a pat on the back for being as straight forward as I could be in any given situation.

Life-lessons-People-tend-to-complicate-their-own-lives-as-if-living-werent-already-complicated-enough.

If everyone actually attempted to stop beating around the bush and just getting to the point – life would be a lot less complicated I reckon.  Some people thrive on the complexity of a particular scenario / situation and probably would over analyse if ever given a frank answer; others flourish when they are surrounded by drama – and if there isn’t any drama around them, they subconsciously seek it.

I’ve been known to speak my mind – often when I should just keep my mouth shut – but what’s the point ? If something bothers me, I address it with the person concerned.  I don’t like drama so I prefer to clear the air whatever the situation or circumstances might be.  I’ve taken to choosing my mood because it seems pointless to let something drag on and bog me down the whole day.  I get whatever it is out of my system and move on with my day because I have enough to do without letting other things weigh me down.

What about you ? Do you tend to complicate your life ? Is there unnecessary drama that tends to follow you around ? What do you reckon you can do to change that ? And if you happen to be blessed to lead an uncomplicated life – do share your secret so that we can all find some inner peace =)

Be In Charge Of Your Feelings

From the time you wake up to the time you get yourself into bed – you have the ability to choose your mood for the rest of the day.  There have been days where I’ve started my day on a bad note and my Mother has just looked at me and said ‘you are in charge of how you feel and how you want your day to go’.   A decade ago I would have just stormed off in a hissy fit and let that bad mood linger (although even now every now and then I do that).  Today I’m a lot calmer and try not to let one bad thing affect the rest of my day.

Day 17

I don’t exactly follow this mantra but I reckon it’s a damn good one to have if you are going to repeat one.  What do you think ?

Choose Your Mood

There was a time when those mood swings would really put a damper to my day.  I used to have a really nasty temper – and once I got into that ‘bad mood’ – it wouldn’t let up and eventually would consume my entire day.  That’s a full 24 hours that was wasted away due to a mood swing which I should have tried to keep under control.  I’ve gotten much better at keeping my temper and my mood swings in check over the last few years.  Nowadays – the mood swings are there only for the 'moment’ and I can continue the rest of my day without interruption.

You often hear people say that one should start their day on a positive note; that one shouldn’t let a minor mood swing set back your whole day.  And it’s true.  You are in absolute control of your mood each and every day; so why not just choose to be in a good mood despite whatever setbacks you may have during the course of the day.

How is your mood today ? Which one did you choose to go with ?

WW #71 Pretty Lizard

Recently I’ve kinda developed a bit of a soft spot for lizards. They still give me the creeps but it’s very hard to explain. Let’s just say that lizards are meant to bring good luck; and lately I have a family of 4 lizards hanging out my bedroom window.

Anyway, this has got to the prettiest lizard I have ever seen. I came across it on my island tour of Bermuda and managed to capture a few shots of it before it ran for cover !

What do you think of this lizard ? Pretty right ? If only they weren’t so creepy – I would have tried to hold this one for a close up picture !

Happy #WW Folks ! Don’t forget to share your linky below if you are participating.

Diva’s Resolutions For 2013

The other day a friend of mine, randomly says to me ‘isn’t one of your new year resolutions to drink more water’ ? I wasn’t quite sure where he got that from because other than penning down a set of resolutions back in 2010 – I hardly ever make New Year resolutions.  Then I realized, he might be referring to this really nice set of ‘thoughts’ I had come across and put up on my blog as Divas’ New Year Resolutions on 1st Jan 2012.  I’ve actually had that image as my desktop picture and I suppose in some ways a lot of those thoughts have worked for me.

Looking back at 2012 – and now connecting it with the ‘resolutions’ – I reckon I’ve done a pretty good job.  According to my business partner, I’ve ‘calmed down significantly’ after taking an extended break to get out of India.  The trip honestly has done wonders for me and I just feel like a brand new person.  That’s what I need.  I’ve also picked up the ‘this too shall pass’ attitude so I’m stressing less than I was before.  I actually feel like I have cut back on sugar … I do love my desserts, but if it doesn’t hit the spot then what’s the point of having it right ? (And this cannot be considered complaining!)

All of the above considered, I came across another really nice set of thoughts that caught my attention (who would think it’s so hard to find a nice set of resolutions that do not involve ‘lose weight’) which shall go alongside my existing desktop picture.

What do you think  ? Have you made any New Year Resolutions ? Do you actually manage to keep them ?

2013. New Year.

Perhaps I won’t start off this post with the conventional New Year Greetings.  I’m pretty sure you’ve read enough of those all over blogosphere and various other social networks.  I don’t watch the news, but channels would be playing new year greetings galore !

Wow. It’s 1st January 2013.  Do you know what this means ?beach-cottage-blogging-tips-535x625

Ok so not really a ‘new blog’ but my blog did get a bit of a make-over so it almost makes it a new looking blog right ?

This New Year, this lil’ Diva has taken the plunge and is getting ready to take on the Ultimate Blog Challenge for the 3rd time ! Unlike the last time I haven’t really given much thought to a theme that I may want to use for the course of this months’ challenge.  The first challenge in January 2012 was quite sporadic in terms of content; whilst the October 2012 challenge was more organized i.e. I used ‘quotes’ as the inspiration behind each of my posts.  Are you going to be taking part in the Challenge ? Have you got a theme behind your posts for the month ?

On that note, I’m going to wish you all a Very Happy & Prosperous 2013 … I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for me =)
