Music Monday #33 Quad City DJs – Space Jam

How can anyone not remember this tune ??? Such a classic !!! I absolutely loved the movie ‘Space Jam’ .. Michael Jordan was awesome; and watching the WB characters playing B-ball with Jordan was just about all that I could handle !

I want to host an old skool RnB party just to see how the crowd reacts to some of the best music made … Sure there are some really good musicians now but I still feel that the music of the 90’s had more substance to them.

Sperm 101

Less than 1% of sperm is capable of fertilizing an egg. The rest is warrior sperm, there to block any rival’s sperm.

I found myself on ‘MetAnotherFrog’ the other day and came across a guest post by Charlie titled ‘Full Frontal Nerdity - Vol 1’ … that’s right Nerdity and not Nudity !!! I had to check it twice as well.

So anyway, we all know what happens when a man ejaculates right ? He lets out his baby-making sperm.  BUT did you know that all men produce THREE types of sperm that each have a different role upon ejaculation ??? Yeah I’m blown away too – not one type – three types of sperm – who would have thought ?!!

Type 1 :  Blockers

Charlie refers to them as the sperm with funny shaped heads or squiffy tails who are a bit lame and that will never make it to the egg.  They will get as far as the cervix and then form a barrier by blocking the channels. This prevents another man’s sperm from a clear run into the womb.  And for those rival sperms that do manage to pass the blockers – they got to watch out for the Killers !

Type 2 :  Killers or Warriors

Charlie refers to them as the school yard bullies.  These sperm are the soldiers of the spermiverse and patrol the border of the uterus looking for rivals (i.e. sperm from another man that are identified by the different proteins on the head)

Now think of a bunch of a piranhas ripping and tearing apart their next meal – yup that’s what the killer sperm does when they find a rivals’ sperm left behind. 

Type 3 : The Quarterback or The Scorer

Finally, the most respected of all sperms – the ones that the Blockers and Killers are providing defense line for – the Scorer sperm or quarterback as Charlie calls them.  These are the goal getters who are on a sole mission – race to the finish line to score and fertilize thus making them a part of the 1% of successful sperms in spermiverse !!

Bet you didn’t know any of that huh ? I wonder what Biology class would have been like had we discussed the types of sperm a man can have !!

Music Monday #32 Immature – Every Little Thing

This is a bit of a blast from the past – total old skool tune. A classic RnB Slow Jam tune. And I can absolutely relate to it right now =) It’s quite a nice feeling – after a really long time.

Dazed Poet : On Edge

I came across another old piece of poetry which I had posted up when I first started this blog back in the summer of 2008 … I must have written this way back somewhere between 2000 – 2002 …

 

On Edge

I stand restless,
ill-at-ease
waiting ...
for something
for someone ...
for an unknown
entity or object

I know not
why I feel so
eventually I will
find out ...

I will stay
this way,
restless,
frantic and
anxious ...
and see what,
it is that awaits me.

I’d like to know how you feel when you read this ? Have you experienced something similar ? Are you able to relate to this ?

The past 10 days have been a bit manic for me.  A lot of things have happened.  My company just finished planning 2 Indian weddings over a span of 5 days in addition to 3 private parties over the weekend.  One of my clients got very aggressive towards my partner NC which left a foul taste for us all at the events.  Still waiting on payments from the client !!  I also came across someone from my past; which left me uneasy.  I’m normally a very composed person, but this encounter just caused a constant anxiety, right at the pit of my stomach.  I didn’t think it would – but it did – and that’s what unnerved me.  Perhaps that’s why I picked this piece of writing to share with you all. 

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you are just left standing at a cliff-side ? Your options being :

1. to take a leap and hope that all will come into place ….
2. just take the bull by the horns and hope that the scars of the aftermath won’t be too bad ?

At this point, my client is away in Goa and I’m waiting for them to come back to sort out balance payments.  My past has gone back to my home city of London.  These 10 days have been a blur to me, and it’s just left me a bit restless; on edge in fact.  And now my body has given way and I’m down with a cough, cold and congested chest =(

This is the perfect Valetines’ song =)  There might be a whole lot of others out there … but it’s definitely something I can relate to … and it would blow me away if someone wanted to know me ‘inside out’ !!

P.S It’s Valentines Day

Yes it’s that time of the year again, when every company and brand is sending out love struck messages, and completely commercializing one day out of 365 days of the year so that we, the people, find a way to show our love and affection for one another.

I’m not trying to sound like a hater – although my first paragraph might say otherwise.  I like the idea of Valentines day.  In fact it’s quite fun – personally and professionally (what else can you expect for an events planner ?)After all which girl (or guy) doesn’t want to be showered with affection by their special someone ?

I just feel that isn’t that something that should (and can) be done anytime, all the time, even randomly so and not just on one specific day ? (besides isn’t that what birthdays, and anniversaries are for?) …  In fact I reckon the more random the displays of affection – the more ‘real’ it comes across and the person on the receiving end would appreciate it that so much more than just on V-day …  

I honestly think that if you want to show someone, anyone (mother, father, relative, boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife) any sort of affection or showcase of ‘love’ – it’s not bound to a specific day.  What do you think ? Or am I just being very cynical ?

29 Years Later …

I’m not quite sure how I want to put my thoughts down on this … I’ve come up with 2 or 3 different titles and none really seem appropriate … I actually tried writing this very post same time last year – and never published it ..

My 28th birthday last year was possibly one of the best parties my friends and social circle have attended in a while (although it was nothing compared to some of the hot shots with money coming out of their ass but I reckon it was bloody brilliant).  A BBQ Pool Party that started at Noon and went on till 5 a.m the following day.  That’s 17 hours of straight partying =) AND I didn’t run out of alcohol despite a turn-out of about 150 guests.

I spent the better half of November ‘10 & December ‘10 (in between trying to catch a breath from the events I was already working on) trying to figure out ‘what’ I wanted to do for my 29th b’day.  As an events planner – it shouldn’t be such a big deal right ? Errmmm not quite …

I’ve always loved my birthday.  Some people dread the thought of getting older; and I belong to the group who go out of their way to celebrate.  And believe me I like to celebrate in style.  I have always tended to celebrate for a minimum of 2 days every birthday unless it falls on a weekend and then it’s 3 full days of just ME ME and ME !  This year was no different when I finally figured out what it was that I wanted to do.

On the 21st of Jan – I invited all my mates to the new club that my company is managing.  Not only did one of my guy mates get up on the bar and do a semi  strip for all the guests; I was pulled up on the bar as well (and trust me – my dress was not of appropriate length to be doing this !).  NC arranged for a divine chocolate cake … can you spot what she had to do it ?

I got home at 4:30 a.m – crashed by 5 a.m and was awake by 7:30 a.m (and albeit overly excited) that by 11 a.m, my close mates and I would be off on an adventure on the party bus !! That’s right – 13 of us were packed in a bright red bus (with a killer boom box) and were on the road for a good 3 hours before reaching our final destination … a fabulously secluded equestrian centre where we indulged in some horse riding; an evening BBQ,  lots of drinking and even more dancing =)

If I compared last year and this years’ birthday parties – both were fun – the difference was that this year – I didn’t go all out … I mean I did but I didn’t .. and what made my birthday special was that I got to spend it with the people that mattered most and the people who cared enough to be there the entire weekend with me.

So here’s a big shout out to NC, NB, AM, HRH, AS, D&S, SM, KG, AS (aka ‘Anshuman’ hahah), SC, AZ, SV, SP & bro  for making my birthday weekend soooo memorable !!

Music Monday #30: Sean Kingston – Fire Burning

With the way my weekend was – it really was as if there was fire burning !! NC and I got home on Saturday night after an event at the new lounge we’re managing and damn our feet were on fire !!! We could not walk .. it was painful to even attempt … and in the morning our feet were still burning up !!!

That’s the sign of a perfectly fab night out and a successful event !!! So please excuse the fact that I’m a day late in putting up my #MM track.
